These Are A Few Of My Favorite Reds + Red Apple Lipstick Giveaway

Red Roundup: Favorites, Valentine’s Day Sale, and $50 Giveaway.

I may not be a huge fan of Valentine’s Day itself, but I am a huge fan of Red Apple Lipstick! And sales! So, a Red Apple Lipstick sale definitely grabs my attention.

In order to promote Red Apple Lipstick’s upcoming Valentine’s Day sale, I’d like to share the love by telling you about my three favorite RAL Reds, as well as three that I’ve got my eye on. I’ll also be running a Red Apple Lipstick giveaway, so check it out and enter at the end of this post!

As another quick heads up on what’s to come, stay tuned for some blogiversary surprises next month and in the spring, a special in-depth roundup of my Red Apple Lipstick collection :)

Disclosure: I was contacted by Red Apple Lipstick and asked if I’d like to help promote the company’s Valentine’s Day Sale this year. In exchange for writing this post, Red Apple Lipstick is sponsoring a generous giveaway, which means one lucky reader will be able to win a $50 gift certificate. The three shades listed as favorites below were purchased with my own money and the corresponding photos are my own. All other images are used courtesy of Red Apple Lipstick. Links are NOT affiliated. Prize is sponsored, but I am not being compensated in any other way for writing this post or running this giveaway. Please be sure to read the full Terms and Conditions at the bottom of the page.

My Favorite Red Apple Lipstick Reds

Recently, my mother mentioned that she sees my love for red lipsticks has not waned since I was a child. Although I don’t really remember playing with makeup when I was young, it seems that I always reached for the boldest, brightest reds in my grandmother’s collection. I guess some things never change!

The three RAL Reds that I find myself reaching for most often are as follows:

My Favorite RAL Reds: Ravishing, Rebel!, and Hollypeño

My Favorite RAL Reds: Ravishing, Rebel!, and Hollypeño

Swatches from left to right: Ravishing, Rebel!, and Hollypeño

Swatches from left to right: Ravishing, Rebel!, and Hollypeño

Ravishing
Ravishing is a relatively new favorite for me. When I first got it, I didn’t like how it applied and almost returned it, yet something in my gut told me to put it away for a rainy day. When I go out, I have a tendency to get a tad more gothic with my style than I would on a regular work day, so I gave Ravishing another chance a few weeks ago for a party. And, I got so many compliments! For me, I think the key to using this crimson red is to apply it very dark. Its blue base helps my teeth appear whiter and as it is a part of the Instant Color Series, it goes on very creamy. Now that I know how to wear it, I enjoy using it to create a vampy, seductive pout. Love!

Rebel!
Rebel! was the first red I purchased from Red Apple Lipstick and is the most perfect red for my pale skin. As soon as I tried it on, I was completely sold on the fact that I could indeed rock bold shades. If, like me, you are the type of person that doesn’t wear much eye makeup, this is a great “look at me” color. Rebel! is a blue-based red, which really does help make my teeth look whiter (and I can use all the help I can get in this department). It has definitely become my go-to matte red and is part of the X-Series. In comparison to the Instant Color Series, I do find this formula to be a little drier, but it works wonderfully with RAL’s Rallye Balm, or any other lip balm underneath.

Hollypeño
Hollypeño is my newest red purchase. It is a part of the new Satin Series and was released in time for last year’s Christmas sale. I did pick up quite a few things during the sale for other people, but Hollypeño was the only new color I gifted to myself. It took me awhile to finally decide on this red, but I’m glad I did. It is a true bright, retro red and when I see it, I always think that this is totally the color Snow White would wear. It’s definitely got that crisp, red apple tone. Ravishing is a vampy, retro-glam shade; Rebel! is a classic, bold shade, and Hollypeño is hot and bright! I think this would be an excellent choice for any skin tone. This formula is creamier than the X-Series, but not quite as moisturizing as the Instant Color Series. However, I find that it does last a bit longer on the lips and leaves a nice stain.

Red Apple Lipstick Reds I’ve Got My Eye On

Now, here are the three RAL Reds that I am seriously considering picking up next:

RAL Reds I've Got My Eye On: Manhattan, Fierce, and Romantic

RAL Reds I’ve Got My Eye On: Manhattan, Fierce, and Romantic

Manhattan
Manhattan is another Satin Series release and now that I know the formula works for me, I’d love to try this shade. Although I ended up choosing Hollypeño during the last sale, I knew this one would remain on my wish list. Manhattan is a deep, sultry red that reminds me of Rebel!, so I suspect it would work well on me.

Fierce
I’ve been keeping an eye on Fierce for some time now. I keep adding it to my cart and then ditching it for other colors because I’m afraid it will be too dark. However, now that I’ve figured out how to wear Ravishing, it might be a good time to take the plunge with Fierce. This Instant Color Series red/purple wine shade does not stay in stock! It is reminiscent of the art deco era and I love that vintage 1920s makeup look. Always so glamorous!

Romantic!
Now, it is rare for me to be interested in a lip gloss because I generally avoid glosses like the plague. I hate the liquid consistency and how many of them are a sticky mess. I don’t often enjoy having super shiny lips that look like I just slathered them with colored Vaseline. However, my curiosity has me wondering if RAL’s glosses might be able to change my view. I am most interested in Romantic because it is very bright and pigmented and can be worn over any red lipstick to deepen the color. Right now, this color (and it looks like many of the other High-Def formula glosses) is on clearance, which is a great time to pick up a product you wouldn’t normally purchase at full price.

  • Lacey Burd

I’m torn between Brazilliant & Mauve Me. Thought honestly, I would be more than happy to have 1 of every color ;)

    • ecoeccentric

Hi Lacey! That is a really hard choice. I’ve had both in my cart at one point or another, but I never ended up purchasing either. Brazilliant is still on my list :)

  • Melissa Marten Price

Favorite RED APPLE RED is Hollypeno. It’s a perfect color not only for Valentine’s Day but also any day you want to rock a bold red lip.
My eye is set on RED 101!!!

    • ecoeccentric

Hollypeño is probably the brightest red lipstick I own and I agree that it’s perfect for Valentine’s Day (and beyond)! Mix & Mingle would be my pick in the pink category. Thank you for sharing, Melissa!

      • Melissa Marten Price

Thanks for the suggestion of pink: Mix & Mingle!
I just picked that one up this morning during the sale. :)

  • LR

RAL reds I own and adore: Fierce, Ravishing, Drama.
Have my eye on: Manhattan, Wine& Dandy

    • ecoeccentric

      All great choices—thanks for entering!

  • Karol

I love Cranberry Magic. I’m still looking for the perfect Hollywood Glamour type red. So I’ve got my eye on Red 101 and Manhattan.

    • ecoeccentric

Hi Karol—I see Cranberry Magic comes highly recommended by many people! I haven’t tried either Red! 101 or Manhattan, but they definitely make me think of classic Hollywood Glamour :)

      • Karol

Hi ecoeccentric (cool name by the way) – yeah, Cranberry Magic is a beautiful color. Hibiskiss and Mix & Mingle (which are somewhat similar to Cranberry Magic) are also gorgeous!

  • CHIRT143

I have only tried RAL’s gluten free mascara; I would love to try Cranberry Magic.

    • ecoeccentric

Cranberry Magic seems to be a big favorite—we’ll both have to check it out! How do you like the mascara? I find that those who’ve tested it either love it or hate it.

      • CHIRT143

I like it with hesitation. I am happy to have a gluten free mascara option but it isn’t fancy. I wish it was a bit thicker and had a better wand. But I like that it doesn’t have any added fragrance and of course, that it is gluten free and made fresh. Still hoping to have it all, but it is a good option right now. I hope they make it better and better in the future based on feedback.

  • Carolyn

I am interested in the Berried Treasure lip gloss.

    • ecoeccentric

Thanks for entering Carolyn! Berried Treasure looks lovely and I’ve heard very positive things about RAL’s Mint 2 Be formula.

  • missspite

I’ve been wanting a red apple lipstick since my allergies forced me to trash all my makeup. YAY!

    • ecoeccentric

Thanks for your comment! I totally relate to the frustrations of having allergies—the misconception is that going “green” makes things easier, but really it can be just as hard to find suitable beauty products. If you’d like to share some brands that work for you, I’d love to hear!

      • missspite

I use Lauren Brook body glitter with no problems, as an eyeshadow primarily. Tarte Amazon Clay liner is the only mainstream makeup that made the purge other than Rosebud Salve. My favorite allergen free company was Earth Angel Cosmetics, but they were small and on Etsy, and have been on break a while, I used a pearl powder and silk powder from them, and their shadows were delicious.

I have plans to try Sugarpill pressed shadows, which appear to be allergen free, and the company isn’t aware of any corn/gluten in their shadows. Violent Maiden, I would love to try.

I failed to find ANY liquid foundation that is not corned in some way, also no liquid liner exists since Gabriel/Zuzu Luxe started using Corn-Ingredients. I am going to have to try Mineral Makeup again, Every Day minerals has the crossroads of great rep and not a fortune.

I would also like to try Beaseme Mascara Cake, which from what I got from the company is corn-and-gluten free. It’s super hard because lots of the time, even companies don’t know what their ingredients are derived from when it comes to corn.

Also I want to try some bufflo-tallow moisturizer, paleo craftspeople are making it on etsy and I’m dying of curiosity.

  • Holly Houghton

My all time favorite red lipstick is cranberry magic. I love that it provides a red lipstick that is still wearable on a normal basis. My favorite red lipgloss is queen of hearts. It provides a red tint without being too overbearing.

    • ecoeccentric

Thanks for sharing your favorite reds, Holly! After reading everyone’s comments, I’ve got to give Cranberry Magic a look. As an Alice fan, I always expect anything named Queen of Hearts to be really vibrantly, royally red, so I’m thrown off by the idea of it being more of a subtle tint :)

  • Kelli

Red although I’d like to give Rebel a try.

    • ecoeccentric

Hi Kelli—thanks for entering! Both are great picks. I hadn’t paid much attention to Red! 101 until now, but it looks wonderfully bright!

  • April D Johnson

I own Cranberry Magic ( more of a blue – red frost that makes your teeth look whiter fyi), a Romantic ( a high definition super shiny gloss reminds me of a cross between a Cadillac red and a maraschino cherry minus the bug butt red dye of course ) and Gypsy Soul ( that I named :D ! It is a deep brickwork red with a touch of brown and looks wonderful with my autumn outfits ) . I am interested in adding these reds to my collection -Strawberry Lips, Berried Treasure and an Almost Red lip liner would finish my red stash ! I feel that lipstick is the definer of every complete ensemble, and that it adds a touch of elegance to everyday wardrobes as well.

    • ecoeccentric

Hi April! Thanks for your wonderfully detailed comment and for entering the giveaway. I LOVE your descriptions of Cranberry Magic, Romantic, and Gypsy Soul—are you a writer? It sounds like you are a kindred spirit when it come to lipstick and I’d love to e-mail chat with you about your collection if you’d be willing to share :)

      • April D Johnson

Thank You, as a matter of fact ,I do enjoy writing ! I also enjoy lipsticks & glosses , but do have to be careful in my selection . I have to be careful because my lips get chapped ( an allergic reaction ) to vivid reds and pinks normally ,but not RAL .I have tried other brands ( on the natural side) and RAL is the only brand colored sticks or glosses that work for me .I am concerned about the safety of make up as well . My skin’s needs are changing with age,and I am trying to find make up that works for me .A high priority for me are colors and formulas that do not age me and conversely that they highlight some of my nicer features. Feel free to contact me , I would enjoy a chat .

  • Michaella B

I don’t own a red from them yet! But I have been eyeing ravishing. :)

    • ecoeccentric

Hi Michaella—Ravishing is a good choice :) I get the most compliments on this shade and I am always surprised by that!
