First, thank you to Sabrina of Chickweed and Blush for nominating me. This is not only my first Liebster Award, but also my first blogger award!
I had to do a little research on the Liebster, as I didn’t know much about it other than the fact that it is given to bloggers from other bloggers. I suspected it might have German origins, which turned out to be true, as liebster can translate to dearest or beloved (among other things). I also discovered that the rules have changed quite a few times over the years. So, you could be nominated for the Liebster Award multiple times, and each time you may get slightly different guidelines to follow. Lorraine over at Wording Well has done some extensive digging about this topic, so check out her post if you are interested in the evolution of the rules.
Disclosure: Links are NOT affiliated and I am in no way being compensated for writing this post.
Rules for this version of the Liebster:
- Acknowledge and link back to the blogger who nominated you.
- Answer the 11 questions posted by the nominator.
- Nominate 5-11 bloggers who have less than 200 followers.
- Create your own 10-11 questions for the nominees.
- Inform your nominees that they have been chosen.
Q: Favorite part about being a blogger?
A: I haven’t been a blogger for too long, but there are a few things about it that I really like so far. Virtually meeting the wonderful community of bloggers has been, and will continue to be awesome. Everyone is friendly, supportive, and willing to give advice! I also really like connecting with readers and brands. Nothing beats hearing positive feedback! When I’ve had a particularly rough day, writing is a means of catharsis for me. I love having an outlet where I can share whatever I am thinking, and blogging can be a bit of a justification for my product purchases :)
Q: Favorite beauty tip?
A: The most useful tip I have received would probably be in regards to eye shadow: wear colors on the lids only and never above the crease. For some reason when I was younger (I’d say high school age), I thought it was a great idea to wear blue shadow all over my lids and all the way up to my brows. And then on top of that, black eyeliner outlining my whole eye. Granted, I had a bit of a goth thing going on, but still, it was the worst idea ever! I have gray eyes that tend to look gray-blue or gray-hazel depending upon the day and blue just doesn’t work for me. Back then I was clearly applying it incorrectly, but to this day, I don’t like how any blue shadows look on me. I stopped wearing eye shadow for quite a few years, but when I started experimenting with golds, orange-coppery browns, metallic greens, and violets, I started loving eye makeup again.
Q: Veganism (yay or nay)?
A: I really respect the vegans of the world, but I don’t think I will be adopting fully vegan eating habits any time soon. I have toyed with the idea of trying to go the pescatarian route, but coming from a Jewish family (and dating an Italian) makes it a tad hard for me to fully commit to completely eradicating beef from my diet :) I do own several vegan cookbooks and everything I’ve tried has been flavorful and tasty. So, I can definitely see myself making vegan meals often, even if I don’t convert. And, my favorite cupcakes are a vegan recipe by Chloe Coscarelli. I find that they stay super moist and yummy for way longer than baked goods made with dairy products :)
Q: Favorite fashion or beauty trend from this year?
A: I have never been one to follow trends, so I’m not sure I even know what is popular right now. I tend to gravitate toward anything that is geeky and/or offbeat. I want to say orchid is the trendy color for spring, but I’d have to Google it to see if that’s even correct ;) Lilly of Genuine Glow posted about orange lips not too long ago and I really love that orange is becoming such an accessible color for any skin tone. Sunkissed from Red Apple Lipstick is on its way to me and I am super excited to try it. I used to wear a lot of dark lip colors until I had a nice online chat with Alicia from Beautylish. I needed help choosing a new shade and she told me that peachy pink lips would be great for me, especially paired with plum eye shadow. Before that, I would never have thought I could pull off peaches or pinks, let alone orange.
Q: Nude or red lip?
A: Of these two, I would choose red; it reminds me of the vintage pinup ladies that I adore!
Q: Dream job?
A: Perfect question for me! I would love to work for myself, focusing energy on making jewelry and developing a little indie brand. I’d want to be able to partner with, or donate a percentage of sales back to great non-profit organizations. My business name and logo are all ready for my potential shop, and I’ve collected a ton of supplies over the years, but I haven’t really made anything (other than gifts) lately. I would describe my work as chainmaille with a bit of a bohemian flair and a victorian elegance. I also love all things medievel and steampunk. Pliers are my tool of choice and I tend to use silver fill, gold fill, or stainless steel in my designs. Ideally I’d like be able to sell online and at fairs (craft, street, Renaissance, Steampunk, Comic-Con, to name a few).
Q: Favorite Indie brand?
A: I have to choose more than one :) Right now my indie beauty brand loves are TASTYFACE Organics, Ilia Beauty, and Hey Gorgeous Skincare. I also want to mention Made with Molecules because I love the way Raven mixes art and science to make super cool jewelry. Check out my review of the TASTYFACE peppermint white chocolate shave cream here, and expect separate posts featuring the other brands soon!
Q: Blogger or bloggers who inspire you or have touched you in some way?
A: Definitely Stancie and Erin of Fig + Sage. I was so sad when these sisters announced that they would no longer be writing. They inspired me to start blogging (albeit the inspiration came long before my first post) and I will always be grateful for all of the fabulous information they provided. But where one chapter ends, another begins. You can still follow Stancie on Pinterest and Erin has launched Poppy Jane Candle Co., where she creates truly pure candles using ingredients sourced solely from nature. I now look forward to being inspired by all of the fabulous green beauty bloggers that I currently follow, and those that I have yet to discover.
Q: Favorite way to unwind after a long day?
A: I work a lot of overtime, so my ideal way to unwind after a long and/or stressful day is to come home and do a half hour of some kind of workout DVD (P90X3 currently), followed by a healthy dinner and relaxing shower. Before I go to sleep, I like to check out bloglovin’ for new posts and do a little writing.
Q: Dream date?
A: This question is the hardest for me because what immediately comes to mind is a date with my boyfriend that I don’t have to plan! After a long day at the office (or a long week), the last thing I want to do is make any decisions. I know, boring answer, but I’m simple when it comes to dates. I like nice restaurants (the ones that give you decent portions) and fancy, luxury hotels. Take me to one of those and I’m a happy girl. If I had to pick something a bit more extreme, I think going to the Superbowl or the Olympics once in my life could be pretty awesome :)
Q: If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
A: Can I make the world a musical?
Now for my nominations!
I used a combination of bloglovin’ and Twitter to make my choices here. Between the Liebster Award and the Very Inspiring Blogger Award, it has been a little tough to keep track of who’s been nominated. I always look forward to new posts from these three ladies, so if you aren’t already following them in some way, show them some love <3
And my questions!
Hope you enjoyed learning a little bit more about me and of course feel free to comment below!
