Shave Series: Get the TASTYFACE Sensation

Review: TASTYFACE Peppermint White Chocolate Shave Cream.

If you read my Going Green tag, you already know that I have an addiction to shaving cream. I have decided to share this passion with all of you in a new Shave Series, where I will introduce the best creams to assist in your unwanted hair removal process. Men and women, you are going to want to read on!

Disclosure: I purchased my shave cream from the TASTYFACE Organics website. I took all photos appearing in this post. Links are NOT affiliated and I am in no way being compensated for writing this post.

The Brand

TASTYFACE Organics™ is the brainchild of Kelly Ross, a smart woman out of Oregon with a passion for health, nutrition, and organic foods. After studying up on environmental, household, and cosmetic toxins, she decided not to accept the nasty junk being pushed by big brand companies. Instead, she made it her mission to create truly clean and awesome skincare. My favorite idea from Kelly’s TASTYFACE story is:

The move toward handcrafted so-clean-you-could-eat-it cosmetics was the only direction I could take. There was no choice. Once I realized everything I was using was the equivalent of junk food on my face, I was MAD. And ready to commit to change. I try to complain less, and do more. I hope you like what I’ve done!

The Product

I first read about TASTYFACE in a natural beauty favorites post on The Glamorganic Goddess, and I’m so glad I chose to purchase some goods :) I love what Kelly has done; she has created the most gentle, moisturizing, and mouthwatering shave cream I have ever used!

The cream: Peppermint White Chocolate Shave Cream

The Claims (adapted from website listing)

There are no chemicals, parabens, petrochemicals, dairy, gluten, or soy in any TASTYFACE products, meaning we can pronounce every ingredient. Great for both men and women and those with sensitive skin. Helps reduce razor burn and leaves skin smooth, refreshed, and moisturized.

Directions for use (direct from website listing)

Apply directly to skin or rub shave cream between hands with a small amount of water to create a light foaming action. Separation may occur and is normal, depending on room temperature. For best results, store in a cool, dark place and use within 2-3 months of opening. Try to keep water out to maintain product freshness and integrity. Replace lid tightly, and always wash hands thoroughly before using.

The Ingredients (as listed on the website)

Note: For all beauty reviews, you will find color coded product ingredients based upon their ratings on EWG (I build reports for each product). A green ingredient scores a 0-2 and is low hazard. Orange ingredients score 3-6 and are moderate hazard. Red ingredients are high hazard and score 7-10, but you should never see reds in any of the products reviewed on this blog! Please visit my Ingredients to Avoid page for further information and potential concerns regarding specific ingredients.

Shave Cream: coconut oil*, cocoa butter*, shea butter*, aloe vera*, castille soap (water, saponified organic coconut*, organic palm* and organic olive* oils (w/retained glycerin), organic hemp oil, organic jojoba oil, essential oils, citric acid, vitamin E), vitamin E* (from sunflower seed oil*), peppermint essential oil*, hand-crafted organic vanilla bean infused jojoba oil*, essential oils*

*organic and high quality source

The overall EWG score for the peppermint white chocolate shave cream is 1.

On EWG, any mention of “essential oils” will automatically be listed as “unspecified oils” and given a score of about 4 (orange). In this case, I contacted Kelly to see if she could provide the specific oils, so that I could generate a more accurate report. In order to keep her trade secrets under wrap, I am not going to alter the ingredients list above, but I can assure you that her “essential oils” ranked very low in the green zone, making this product extremely safe. The ingredients on the tub were also slightly different than on the website, but Kelly informed me that the website is up to date and that some products are still using older labels.

The Details

Packaged in a nice plastic #1 (PETE) tub, containing approximately 8 oz. of cream. The opening is quite large so gives you plenty of space for scooping the cream out with your fingers. The tub is light in weight and the labeling is sleek and classy. It contains the company logo, product name and size, directions for use, warnings, and an ingredients list, which you know I appreciate! The lid screws on and off and there is a protective thin plastic covering between the top and the cream.

Color is an eggshell white.

Scent is mostly minty with a little bit of cocoa. This shave cream smells EXACTLY like mint chocolate chip ice cream. When I got my package in the mail, I could not stop sniffing this product—so good! And I’m fairly certain I made all of my family members smell it as well. It is definitely a spirit lifter with its sinus clearing peppermint essential oil.

Feels silky and soft. It is cool to the touch and when I scoop it out or rub on my fingers, it reminds me of a soft butter. When I first received it, the cream was a bit more solid, but has since melted to a more creamy texture, which is normal.

Applies smoothly and absorbs quickly into the skin. A tiny bit goes a long way and adding a bit of water to your skin after applying the cream creates a mild lather.

My Experience

Customer Service is definitely worth mentioning because Kelly is such a sweet person. As I don’t always need to contact all companies I buy products from, I am only going to be including this section if there is something worth telling :) I first contacted TASTYFACE via the contact form on the website to inquire about the shipping of my order. I saw a few days later on Facebook that Kelly was having trouble with her web contact form, so I e-mailed her directly. I figured I would get a response within 24 hours, but she responded 5 minutes later—5 minutes! Anyway, her response was super friendly, she answered all of my questions, and she helped me set up an online account. Between that, some interactions on Twitter, and her quick and helpful response about the essential oils, I have to give TASTYFACE customer service an A+!

The cream works so well I actually use it on my legs! Let me explain. Since I started going green with body products, I have (for the most part) given up on using shaving cream on my legs. One, I can be lazy and it is a lot quicker for me to do a dry shave and then slap on some moisturizer. Two, many “natural” shaving creams are WAY too hard to wash out of my razors. So, when I say this cream works so well that I actually use it on my legs, it is probably the highest compliment I can give for shave cream. This cream is not only my shave cream and moisturizer in one, thanks to the skin smoothing jojoba oil, but it also does not get stuck and clump in my razor. Win and Win.

A little bit goes a long way and scooping a bit with my index and middle fingers is perfect. I can cover most of my leg with this small amount, but keep in mind that you don’t have to see it on your skin for it to do its job. If you want a bit more lather, or you like being able to see the cream on your skin, all you have to do is run a few fingers under some water and then rub your leg. Like magic—lather appears! This cream definitely makes shaving a lot easier and ensures that I won’t nick or cut myself. And, the best part is that when I am done, I don’t have to moisturize because this cream has already done it for me! I also get no skin reactions from this product—no itching, bumps, or redness.

Of course, you can use this cream for any type of shaving (not only legs). Because of the moisturizing power, I definitely recommend it for any of the more sensitive areas of the body. It doesn’t leave rough patches, lots of dead skin cells, or the need to scratch yourself like an animal for the rest of the day ;) I also recommend this for the face. Men and women alike will enjoy the refreshing scent of cool mint and smooth chocolate.

As an added bonus, I can say that I have used this as a hand cream as well. A few weeks ago, my hands become a shriveled mess due to a combination of weather, shower, and a cream that did not work for my skin. I didn’t have anything else on hand (no pun intended), so I figured, why not just use my shave cream? I was not surprised to find that it worked fabulously well. I did have to put it on, rub it in, and then do a quick wipe on my towel, but as a result, no more dry hands!

Kelly’s peppermint white chocolate shave cream is a must-have for me and has positioned itself as the one to beat!

Pros & Cons

Pros: scent is amazingly good, excellent ingredients, moisturizing, can be used for any type of shaving (or as a hand cream), great for sensitive skin, does not get stuck in razor, a little bit goes a long way, reasonably priced for what you get

Cons: might be hard to use up within 2-3 months of opening, depending upon how often you shave

Eco Eccentric Approved?

Absolutely! I highly recommend giving this shave cream a try.
